About ASH Waste Group
ASH Waste Services is the leading provider of waste management and resource solutions across the UK. With its head office in Wrexham, the company has over 35 years’ experience strives to be at the forefront of their industry. Its aims are simple, to provide a service that is fantastic value for its customers, whilst recycling and reusing the waste it collects to deliver a sustainable future for our planet.
The project brief
With multiple businesses within the ASH Waste Group, each using different energy suppliers on different tariff agreements, the company recognised that there was an opportunity to streamline its energy purchasing strategy by outsourcing it. ASH Waste Group wanted to work with an experienced company that could help them manage their energy needs more efficiently, freeing up the time spent managing their energy providers, to focus on customer service. Innovative Energy Consultancy Ltd (IEC) impressed the business with its personal and professional approach and industry knowledge.
The solution
IEC has worked with ASH Waste Group since November 2023, providing business energy purchasing and invoice validation services. IEC initially carried out a full audit of ASH Waste Group’s existing utility agreements to understand its current charges, contract terms and the challenges they had faced navigating the complexities of the energy industry. Once this information was collated and reviewed, IEC agreed an approach on the tender requirements, to enable future contracts to be aligned, ensuring more efficient energy purchasing. Based on the agreed contract criteria, IEC presented a selection of electricity and gas offers from its trusted suppliers. On average, these new contracts provided savings of approximately 15-35%.
Once the new agreements were in place, IEC managed all the contract administration to ensure a smooth transition to the new suppliers. IEC also provides ongoing account management and invoice validation services, ensuring the bills are calculated correctly and the agreed contract charges applied. Once the invoices have passed IEC’s verification checks, they are forwarded to ASH Waste’s accounts department for payment. This saves the ASH Waste Group time and resources which it can now focus on its core business activities.
“Energy purchasing is complex and time-consuming, with multiple layers, so unless you are an industry expert, it is hard to know if you are getting the best deal. I wanted to work with a business that had level of expertise to ensure that they could aggregate the best deals across our numerous businesses and enable us to make timely decisions across the whole portfolio, when market conditions are preferential.
“The team at IEC gave me the confidence that they had the required experienced and industry specific knowledge, which meant that I could trust them to get me the best energy solution for the business’s needs. My time has been freed up considerably, enabling me to focus on my core business and my customers, which is hugely beneficial. IEC has shown commitment to building a long-term relationship and I am looking forward to working with them going forward.”
